The safety of our children is a responsibility we all share, especially here in our mountain community, where narrow roads, changing weather, and limited visibility can make travel more challenging.
School bus safety laws exist to protect children!. When drivers understand and follow the bus laws, we significantly reduce the risks of serious accidents. 
We ask all families, neighbors, and visitors to take a moment to review school bus safety laws and commit to following them. 
Together, we can ensure every child in our mountain community arrives at school and returns home to their families safely every day!

Page: STOP for School Buses!   KNOW the LAW! It is “illegal” in every state to pass a stopped school bus that is loading or unloading students — this applies in both directions of travel. Know the law: All drivers must follow traffic laws related to school bus safety.
Let’s understand the flashing light system used by school bus drivers to alert motorists: Yellow flashing lights mean the bus is preparing to stop to pick up or drop off children. Slow down and prepare to stop. Red flashing lights and an extended stop arm means 
 the bus is stopped, and children are getting on or off. You must STOP your vehicle until the lights stop flashing and the stop arm is retracted.  (This law applies to both directions of traffic) Let’s all do our part to keep our students safe!
Page: School Bus Stops-What Every Driver Must Know. SCHOOL BUSES WITH OVERHEAD: Red with Red & Yellow Lights (with or without Bus Stop Signs).  1) Yellow lights are flashing: Prepare to stop. 2)Red lights at flashing: STOP no closer than 20 feet from the bus. 3) Red lights turn off: proceed.
