Dr. Paul Sevillano, Superintendent, Rim of the World Unified School District
Dear Families and Community Members,
As Superintendent, I want to clarify and reassure our families about the use of digital learning tools in our schools, including i-Ready, Performance Matters, Renaissance, Google, and other instructional platforms.
All approved technology platforms used in our district meet strict student data requirements. Each program operates under a formal data privacy agreement to ensure student information is protected, and used for educational purposes only, and never sold for advertising. ROWUSD maintains ownership and control of all student data.
We recognize the ongoing conversations about screen time and want to emphasize that digital tools used in our classrooms are purposeful, teacher-directed instructional supports. Programs like i-Ready are designed to help teachers identify each student’s needs and provide targeted instruction, while maintaining high-quality teaching, meaningful classroom interactions, and appropriate intervention and enrichment opportunities.
As a district, we are intentionally working to achieve a thoughtful balance between teacher-led instruction and technology use in the classroom. Technology is used as a tool to enhance learning, while our teachers remain at the center of instruction, guiding, supporting, and engaging students in meaningful ways.
In addition, tools such as i-Ready are supported by research and are widely used to help monitor student progress and growth in reading and mathematics. These resources allow teachers to tailor instruction and provide timely support, ensuring that all students are progressing.
   We remain committed to:
Protecting student privacy and data security
Using technology intentionally to enhance, not replace, instruction
Maintaining a balanced approach between teacher-led learning and technology use
Providing high-quality, research-based tools that support student learning
We value your partnership and understand the importance of transparency. If you have any questions about the tools we use or how we protect student information, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Thank You.
